    …nothing at all except hatred?

I’m not sure exactly what you are asking…

Personally I am not feeling hateful, but I am pretty saddened at the cold reality we’re facing (and I’m not saying our problems would be solved with Kerry… far from it). I’m not saying we’re doomed necessarily, but the fact that we couldn’t defeat this guy is a very bad sign, in my opinion.

I don’t hate somebody who voted for bush because they believe it was morally the right thing to do, but I am very frustrated that we legislate morality in the first place, and that the religious right is able to run with that idea this far. It’s very disconcerting to me to see religion being used as a wedge that has been driven deep into our culture, and it seems very much against the spirit of the documents on which this country was founded. The same group of people that are only too happy to believe blindly in imaginary beings are not surprisingly willing to vote solely on these wedge issues. The right is only too willing to wield that tool, because as we can see it works quite well.

As a blogger said of the right: “…they stand for things we are diametrically opposed to.  We can’t siphon the “racist” vote, or the “anti-gay” vote, or the “religious nutcase” vote.  And the numbers are saying that those constituencies are very large, even if we liberals don’t want to believe that.

So, it’s bad news. This situation seems to be getting worse, not better. There is also the matter that even in this election which had record turnout, only just under %60 of the elligible voters actually voted. This leads me to the strong conviction that at least 40% of this country is fucking stupid. Not irrecoverably stupid, because I was one of those non-voters in 2000, and I have come around. However, I would guess that most americans have not taken as much time as I have to get informed – though I am in no way claiming to be any sort of expert.

I’m also confused because I don’t know what to do about it, or even if anything can be done.

      How about you?

i want gay people to be allowed to get married if they feel like it. what the fuck!! i feel sick inside that out of 11 states that voted on banning gay marriage, all 11 voted in favor. even though i do love this country for so many, many reasons, it’s stuff like that that makes me ashamed that i am an american.
