props to damon for the fine recommendations.
forgive my ignorance, but what is FLAC format?
‘free lossless audio codec’. an open-sourcey way to achieve lossless compression. bleep.com has started with the entire autechre catalog in FLAC but will be following with others as well. costs a few bucks more, but if you want the supa clean action, that’s one way to get it if you don’t have it on CD.
(in my case, since itunes doesn’t play flac I use MacFlac to convert them to AIFF, and then iTunes to convert that to apple’s lossless codec, which is supposedly similar to flac).
iTunes (or Quicktime, rather) could play FLAC prior to Quicktime 7. The FLAC Quicktime component broke under 7, but efforts are under way to rectify that. See: http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=33647&hl=flac+tiger
The only annoyance was that you’d have to put the FLAC file in the MOV container for iTunes to recognize it. In the end, it’s probably easier just to transcode to Apple Lossless.
I think the more amazing thing here is that Ben actually posted something on LiveJournal. Wow! Strange times indeed!
Gratz on the new headphone Dre. Beyerdynamic makes some good stuffs for a lot of live performance type things. I’d imagine their headphones are really good too.
5 – 35,000 Hz
God that’s sexy.
